Snow skiing, boarding or sledding in Vegas?

Well, it does snow in Vegas every few years but there is rarely enough snow to ski or sled on when it does come. If you haven’t been to Las Vegas you should know, the city sits at the base of a valley which appears to be flat to the naked eye.

Therefore, if Las Vegas sits in a valley that means there must be mountains somewhere nearby. The highest peak at 11,900′ is Mt. Charleston. As discussed in an earlier blog, the quaint Village of Mt. Charleston at 7,500′ is nestled just below the peak in a picturesque in a horseshoe-shaped valley. On the opposing side of Mt. Charleston sits a similar horseshoe-shaped valley that’s home to Lee Canyon Ski Area.

This lesser known Las Vegas attraction sits less than an hour from the strip. There are 3 runs that provide beginner to expert level runs for both skier and snowboarder. Each run has various jumps, ramps, etc… for those who’d like to challenge themselves on the way down to the lodge.

The lodge has a pro-shop to rent gear for those who may have not known about this Vegas adventure. There are lockers, a ski shop with clothing galore to chapstick. There is a full-service restaurant with a grill to order sandwiches, burgers and etc… Just through the door, there’s a sports bar to hangout with friends or, socialize to make new ones. Of course, you could just sit in either and observe the skiers coming down the ski runs.

If your not a skier or snowboarder, just before the ski resort lies the locals sledding area with plenty of space to call your own. No sled? No worries most local sporting goods stories have inexpensive sleds for purchase during the winter season.

During the non-snow season there is still plenty to do in the Lee Canyon area with hiking, biking and camping just to name a few.
